The world runs on the Internet now and WhatsApp is the name for the best chat app. Can you believe, even after having billions of user base, there are still thousands of them installing WhatsApp every day? Ever since it’s initial launch, there is only a hike in the number of users and not the downfall of users.
The idea of WhatsApp was seeded by two former Yahoo employees- Jan Koum and Brian Acton who left Yahoo to go on a world tour. Just when they realized they were running out of money, they again got back to work to start something big.
Koum got the idea of the messenger when Apple has launched its first iPhone with Appstore. With great potential for messaging services, Koum wanted to create an ad-free messenger. He worked on the backend of the application and hired a freelancer for UI. Brian Acton raised some funds from his ex-colleagues in Yahoo and eventually became the co-founder of WhatsApp.
In 2014, Facebook acquired WhatsApp for 19.6 billion dollars. Zuckerberg paid double of Google’s bid to WhatsApp and got the edge over other companies. The sole purpose of creating an ad-free messenger to its users has fetched them good. This way WhatsApp still continues to be one of the best messenger services to its users.
